Scindia Ghat

The ancient name of this ghat was Veereshwar Ghat, which is also mentioned in Geevarnapadmanjari (17th century AD). There is also the Vireshwar or Atmavireshwar (Shiva) temple (CK 7/158) at the ghat which was built by a person named Vireshwar in AD 1302. In 1835, Baijabai Scindia, wife of Daulatrao Scindia, the Maharaja of Gwalior, got the ghat made pucca, after which it came to be called Scindia Ghat. There are 5 major temples in the Ghat and the adjoining area of which four are dedicated to Shiva (Vireshwar, Parvateshwar and Vashishteshwar), one to Vishnu (Vaikuntha Madhava) and one to Dattatreya.

After this, the chain of Sankataghat, Gangamahal Ghat, (II) Bhonslaghat, Ganeshghat, Ramghat, Jatarghat, Gwaliorghat, Balaji starts.
