In the late 16th century Tulsidas estblished an idol of Hanuman under holy fig tree known later at Sankat Mochan Hanuman. It is one of the oldest temples of the city in the Sankatmochan-Lanka locality. The temple is dedicated to Lord Hanuman. It is said that Goswami Tulidasji wrote parts of his epic Shri Ramcharitmanas here. The annual Sankat Mochan Music Festival, held here since 1923 as part of Hanuman Jayanti celebration is a major attraction.
